Stitching the Sacred: Islamic Geometric Embroidery Workshop and Iftaar
sunday march 8, 2026 @ 5:00PM - 8:30PM
1444 Dupont St
Toronto, ON M6P 4H3
Spend an evening working with geometry, an art form that carries deep spiritual and cultural meaning across many traditions including mystical and spiritual significance. In this workshop, we’ll explore both the hands-on practice and the philosophy behind sacred and Islamic geometry. These forms echo patterns found throughout the natural world, from the smallest structures to the vastness around us, gently reminding us of our connection to something larger and to eachother.
Using thread and simple geometric frameworks, you’ll create your own patterned work on paper. The process of weaving and repetition invites slowness and focus. It’s less about perfection and more about settling into the rhythm of making, allowing the work to unfold with care and attention. All materials will be provided, though you’re welcome to bring photographs, drawings, or other works on paper if you’d like to experiment further.
We’ll be gathering during the month of Ramadan, a time set aside for reflection, prayer, and intentional living. The slow, repetitive nature of working with geometry sits naturally within this rhythm, offering a quiet way to focus the mind and move with care and attention. The evening will end with a catered iftaar, and all are warmly invited to gather and break the fast together in community.
A portion of each registration fee will go toward sponsoring an Eid meal for children at an orphanage in Zanzibar, carrying the spirit of this gathering beyond our own table.
